More sad news to report: Michael Hegstrand, best known as Road Warrior Hawk, passed away in his sleep last night.

Newer wrestling fans remember the sad appearance for the Road Warriors on RAW a few months ago - but these guys were the pioneers of the make-up wearing wrestling bad-asses to come. They were famous for matches where they would storm the ring and squash their opponents before their ring entrance music was over.

He wasn't that old. Maybe his mid-fourties. Another piece of my cultural past is now gone. That's really sad.

I'm home from seeing No Mercy. Some thoughts:

* Having the Cruiserweight title match first was a great idea. Fast-paced, lots of action... it was a good way to get the crowd hot.

* Not that making A-Train vs. Chris Benoit would keep the heat - at least, if it weren't for Benoit. As always, he made his opponent seem better, but thank the Gods of Intelligent Booking that he won!

* When Shaniqua appeared in the tag match, I said to my friend David "She got a boob job. That explains her 2-week disappearance."

So in interview, she says Bradshaw's clothesline left her chest "swollen", and the doctor said the swelling may never go down. I laughed my ass off. What a way to explain the surgery in story!

* Vince won his "Loser retires" match against Stephanie. Oh joy, we get to see more of his "Vince is a prick" stuff that everyone's sick of. Granted, this is a way to give Stephanie time off for her honeymoon. When it's done, I'm sure they'll find story reasons to put her back in.

As to the replacement GM, one name makes sense to get him back on screen: Paul Heyman.

* John Cena may have lost his match against Kurt Angle - but like his debut, I think this was a loss he'll come out the better from.

* The Big Show is now US Champion... granted that Eddie Guerrero doesn't need the title to be over, but TBS just destroys the prestige of the belt.

* I missed the end of the World title match; The Undertaker tends to bore me to sleep. How pathetic though: a Biker Chain Match was just another "Something on a Pole" match renamed.

Overall, despite a few small blahs, this was an entertaining PPV.
