The just finished Judgment Day PPV wasn't as bad as it seemed on paper. It did have some disappointments, and some surprises:

The opening bout of Rey Mysterio-RVD against The Dudleys was given a good amount of time to develop, and was actually a good opener to heat up the crowd.

Torrie Wilson/Dawn Marie was actually slightly better than expected, in part due to the Angle stipulation that if Torrie lost, she'd be fired. Some T&A exposure by Dawn also helped. Still, isn't it time to stop booking these two together?

Mordecai: cool ring entrance, methodical and dull ring work. He resurrected the Razor's Edge finisher and gave it a different meaning at least.

Rico/Haas-Gunn/Holly... it wasn't as dull as having Bob and Billy seemed, at least.

Chavo Guerrero regained his Cruiserweight title from Jacqueline thanks to some cheating tactics... big shock. Hopefully now Matt Capitelli will be ready to appear.

Cena-Duprée wasn't given enough time, but it was a pretty solid match for the time it was given.

The Undertaker-Booker T saw Book get some good offense, but ultimately 'Taker got the win. I don't think this match really helped the Book-man's career though.

The main event with Eddie defending against JBL was a real old school brawl. It really chugged with a series of restholds by John, but it really picked up with a sick blade-job by Eddie. He returned the favor to Bradshaw in the end after picking up a DQ loss. I think this match may elevate Eddie's title run, but it also implies future matches for these two.

Overall I'd give this PPV a Thumbs Middle starting to push toward a Thumbs Up.

I almost forgot this, but an e-mail newsletter reminded me: as JR mentioned this past week, wrestling legend Pepper Gomez died.

I don't remember him in the ring very well, but I knew his name. He will be missed; I'll be researching past wrestling tapes for his work.
