We're a few hours more than a day away from InVasion now. Are you looking forward to it? If you say not: liar.

WCW may not be over with the fans, but ECW is. Amazing how a faction name can elevate guys who've been wasted in the WWF - like Raven, Tazz, and Justin Credible - and guys who got decent pushes like Rhyno and The Dudley Boyz can instantly get even more fan heat just by changing allegiances like this.

Some of the WCW guys will get a lot of fan respect just due to their ring work (Booker T and Billy Kidman come to mind immediately), and other hard workers may get there at this event.

Some easy predictions:

  • The Kidman/X-Pac match will see fans rooting for Kidman... like Smackdown this week showed, fans won't take to X-Pac even as a face. Regardless, I'm hoping this match really gets the time to develop.

  • Likewise RVD/Jeff Hardy. "Conventional" wisdom would say that Jeff goes over here, since he did the job in 1997 - but the new faction really has to come out strong. Either way, this match will likely be a workrate dream.

No matter what, expect my views here by Monday!

Now that I'm back online, I have to acknowledge the death of Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy in a hotel this past Monday.

Texas wrestling never made it to Montreal, so I never saw The Freebirds except in magazine photos. I also saw them in a cameo match at the start of the original Highlander movie.

Terry carved a new legend with Steve "Dr. Death" Williams in Japan, as a dominant gaijin tag-team. They came to WCW to feud with the Steiners, but I wasn't much into mat wrestling then, so they failed to impress me.

Terry was a troubled man, hooked on strong narcotics. He OD'd in 1994; doctors managed to ressesutate him, but he suffered major brain damage as a result. The Gordy we saw from then on wasn't even a fraction of his past reputation.

Sadly, I think the drugs were a major cause of his death; he was only 40 years old.

RIP

Well, I've tweaked many of the configuration files for ABomanation's new home, and it seems to be working well. I'll now try to transfer over all of my old archives within the next few days!
