The WWF just had its second solid Raw in a row - that it was in my homeland too made it all the sweeter!
Some thoughts:
- The big promo for Stu Hart was a real touch of class. Not only is he a Canadian sports legend, soon an Order of Canada recipient, but he's also a man with very strong ties to the WWF
He's really showing his age though. Sad to see a man who was so vital even a few years ago so shrunk. - I was really surprised to see Bruce Hart among the family members shown though; when Owen was killed, he was one of the most vocal in expressing his anger against Vince McMahon
- The King of the Ring history moment was a real bit of brass... Bret Hart, even though his family there made some sense, is gone on major bad terms. Jerry "the King" Lawler is just gone.
- Lance Storm! They wanted to begin the WCW Invasion, and he was a perfect choice too... the wrestler from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
- The main event made for the second time Benoit and Austin gave us a tremendous match on TV. A solid, exciting affair. Many pinfall attempts, many opportunities to go either way.
- Major Brass #2: In Hart family country, re-creating the Montreal Screw-Job for an ending. That really took guts.
Why do I expect Bret to grouse about it in his next column? - One big negative: the CRTC Thought Cops again went long for the Dudleyz table spot.Fortunately, JR and Paul Heyman gave good enough play-by-play for us to keep up on it.
