The Royal Rumble was a little schitzoid, but the Rumble match itself was astounding!

Most of the matches before it were made very short to leave time for the Rumble match itself. As a result, matches like the Cruiserweight title match were "blink and you miss it" affairs.

Eddy versus Chavo Guerrero was a good example of the new "slow down in the ring/less high spots" edict. They did far more mat wrestling. To my surprise, Eddy got a clean pinfall win. I guess this was meant to be a short feud.

The shortness of the Rey / Knoble match seemed even more criminal when Brock / Holly was given more time - to squander on rest holds. Fans were quiet for the majority of this match, which shows how unimportant this feud was.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels had a major brawl, both wearing a major crimson mask. I wasn't happy with the double-countout finish, and the crowd voiced displeasure at it too.

The Rumble itself had some really cool moments: the surprise return of Mick Foley, the first mind games for the Undertaker's return, and of course smarks reason to rejoice: Chris Benoit winning.

If he gets another "bridesmaid" loss from this, I will not be happy.
