I caught up on viewing Smackdown from videotape today (it was a busy week for me; watching wrestling had to wait - so sue me). Watching the Hardcore title match - and first off, I have to say the Hardcore division has made Steve Blackman watchable - two things about this (and other such matches) struck me:

  • Blackman is in danger of becoming like Hulk Hogan soon if he isn't careful.

By that, I don't mean in terms of popularity; what I mean is that he isn't varying his moves enough that we can't call them each time. Already, we can turn to a Blackman Hardcore match and call out "First the trashcan lids! Now the fire extinguisher! Now the fighting sticks!"

It'll get really old if he isn't careful.

  • The 24/7 rule was bad enough with Crash Holly, but the major problem with it is hitting home even more now: having tons of wrestlers interrupt a match to start another leaves the matches unable to get any rhythmic flow going. It gets too hard to follow, quickly.
